Do School Playground Projects Require DSA Approval Title 24, Part 1, Section 4-314 lists structures, including playground Equipment, that may be constructed without first obtaining DSA approval. They may be submitted to DSA for approval at the option of the school district. Proposed Changes to DSA Policy Affecting School Playgrounds The Playground Accessibility and Surfacing Recommendations proposed by the Universal Access Committee were rejected by the DSA Advisory Board by a wide majority and will not be forwarded to the State Architect. There will not be any changes to the current DSA regulations affecting play equipment or play surfaces. (October 14, 2005) Any surfacing product that complies with ASTM F1292 and F 1950 may be used in school play areas. The proposed requirement to limit the choice to poured in place products was not accepted. Is Engineered Wood Fiber an Acceptable Surfacing Material for School Playgrounds California Department of State Architects Access Compliance Reference Manual, Section 3 – Policies , Page 25 says that Engineered Wood Fiber is an acceptable material for use around Play Equipment.
