Inspection Services Playground Improvement Plan Review We provide complete review of your proposed plans and specifications for compliance with all applicable laws, standards and guidelines including ADA and make recommendations for modifications. This service includes evaluations of the play equipment and existing and proposed site improvements (paved areas, fences, drainage, furnishings etc.). We provide plan review services for all parks and recreational facilities for government and commercial applications. Initial Playground Safety Inspection The California Playground Safety Regulations require that all existing playgrounds be audited by a Certified Playground Safety Inspector before October 1, 2000 and that all new playgrounds be audited and approved before they are opened to the public. We perform the audits, identify deficiencies and recommend improvements necessary to modify your facility. You will be provided with a signed Audit Report for your files. The requirements vary depending on the type of agency involved, we will advise you of specific requirements for your site. If improvements are required we provide follow up inspection service if required. When your facility meets the requirements of the California Playground Safety Regulations, we will provide you with a Certificate of Compliance stating that the Facility meets the requirements. Frequent Playground Safety Inspection Programs The California Playground Safety Regulations require that Public Playground Owners develop a program for regular inspections and maintenance of their playgrounds to assure that the equipment continues to comply with the regulations. The regulations do not specify the frequency of inspections, that should be determined by evaluating the use and environment of the specific playground. We can evaluate your existing program or help you develop a program specific to your needs. We provide training for your staff so that they can conduct the necessary inspections and maintain the equipment or you can outsource either of these responsibilities. ADA Site Inspections The Americans With Disabilities Act accessibility Guidelines for Play Areas final rule has been published but is not enforceable at this time. They must be adopted by the Department of Justice. The California Division of the State Architect (DSA) has adopted these requirements for California school play areas. Proposed rules for Recreation Facilities and Outdoor Developed areas are available but not finalized. These rules will not be retroactive but need to be considered when developing new projects or remodeling existing projects. We can evaluate your sites and your proposed development plans and make recommendations for compliance with these new guidelines. Even though these rules have not been adopted, many agencies consider complying with the proposed rules to be good professional practice. INTERPRETIVE EXHIBIT CONSULTATION The California Playground Safety Regulations do not apply to museum or interpretive center exhibits but some agencies that operate these exhibits see the connection between their exhibits and children's safety and require that their exhibits comply with the California Playground Safety Regulations. Recent projects include the Bay Area Discovery Museum, "Lookout Cove" and the California Department Fish and Game, Nimbus Fish Hatchery - "Salmon Interpretive Exhibit
