David Spease, Landscape Architect -- ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Play Areas On
Friday, July 23, 2010 The Department of Justice adopted the 2010 Standards for
Accessible Design which includes the guidelines for play areas. In general,
these final rules will take effect 6 months after the date on which they are
published in the Federal Register. Compliance with the 2010 Standards for
Accessible design is permitted after that date, but not required until 18 months
after the date of publication. The Department has prepared fact sheets
identifying the major changes in the rules. Engineered Wood Fiber Shortage Recently a Northern California supplier sent out a notice that there is a drastic shortage of wood fiber due to the economy…Mills closing and wood chips now being used for bio-diesel. This news has left the entire playground industry with NO WOOD FIBER We have not been given a time frame for this shortage. We cannot supply any wood fiber and we cannot fill the orders we currently have pending.
I have checked with three of the nations largest suppliers of Engineered Wood Fiber; Fibar, Sof'Solutions and Zeager Brothers and all three have confirmed that they do not have a shortage. There may be a shortage for local suppliers but all three of these companies ship directly to California and have good supplies. There may be other suppliers but these are the suppliers that these companies work with. Fibar Southern CA up to Sof'Solutions
